The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a museum of modern and contemporary art located in Bilbao in the Spanish Basque Country that opened to the public in 1997. It is one of the two museums of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The innovative structure of the building was designed by Frank Gehry in the style for which he is famous. Its silhouette is the result of a unique combination of stone, glass and titanium.

The museum quickly became one of the best-known and most appreciated contemporary buildings in the world, which has done much to revive the city and raise its profile. Modern and Contemporary Art
Important works at the Guggenheim Bilbao include gigantic sculptures by Richard Serra, installations by Jenny Holzer, a Spider by Louise Bourgeois (1999), and the giant Puppy dog dressed in flowers by artist Jeff Koons (1992) located at the entrance. Traditional paintings and sculptures are in the minority compared to the less academic arts.
